Salisbury - Historic City in Wiltshire
Within the Close walls visitors to Salisbury find the 13th
century Cathedral,
museums and historic houses. The sights and splendid shops
of Salisbury are all within easy walking distance of our front
door. (The Market Square is only 470 metres (515 yards away).
At 80 acres, the Close is the largest cathedral close in the
UK. Normally, a cathedral close is the residence of canons
and other clergy connected with the cathedral, but Salisbury
Cathedral Close is very cosmopolitan, containing some remarkable
examples of medieval and Georgian architecture. Some of the
houses are open to the public during the summer.
The city has dozens of restaurants and pubs to choose from.
A wide range of cultural events with frequent concerts, exhibitions,
excellent theatres, arts centre and cinema.
The
Salisbury festival takes place each spring, it is without
a doubt one of the finest in the country. Salisbury is located
very near many places
of interest, Stonehenge, Avebury, Wilton House, Bath,
Portsmouth, Wells and Winchester; it is an easy trip down
to the South Coast as well.
From our location many of our guests walk to nearby attractions
or travel further afield with the use of public transport,
a car is really not a necessity.
